World Architecture News House of  Year competition brings out strongest design talents

Last year, Marbach made its architectural ascent in status when the city’s Museum of Modern Literature, designed by David Chipperfield to reconnect Germany’s literature once separated by the East/West divide, won the Sterling Prize – a most coveted architecture award. This year, perched on 6900 m2 of land atop a hill facing the museum, a private house responds with originality and thoughtful design, elevating the bar in the region. 

Submitted for WAN’s House of the Year 2008, Dupli Casa displays sophisticated shape manipulation to transform a simplistic design into a complex yet comprehensible super-home.

“The geometry of the building is based on the footprint of the house that previously was located on the site,” say Dupli Casa’s designers J. Mayer H. Architects. “Originally built in 1984 and with many extensions and modifications since then, the new building echoes the ‘family archaeology’ by duplication and rotation. Lifted up, it creates a semi-public space on ground level between two layers of discretion.”

The design therefore reflects a family vernacular – the different levels of a family presenting as twisted versions of the next, performing different functions but communicating as a whole.

“The skin of the villa performs a sophisticated connection between inside and outside and offers spectacular views onto the old town of Marbach and the German national literature archive on the other side of the Neckar valley,” the architects explain. In such close proximity to Chipperfield’s masterpiece Dupli Casa’s design is able to feature the Museum of Modern Literature as an asset in its own design, responding to the simple lines and blanched colouring.

And just as RIBA, who deliver the annual Sterling Prize, commended Chipperfield for his “control and discrimination in the choice of materials” the same could be saluted in Dupli Casa’s design. Concrete walls and wooden floors are used creating a connection between the modern and the old, the natural and the man-made and the inside and outside, similarly achieved in Chipperfield’s columned design which integrates the indoors and out. While the three storey house holds a standing of its own, as a piece defining responsive architecture, its stature grows to reflect this

Since it’s the first home you see as you enter the community, we wanted it to make a strong statement.

Before accepting restoration, the appearance of this building was very bad, and by not having many we could safely maintained solution… we change a lot of the appearance construction.

Still using wash coloring technique with light brown color we give some art color touch for this front view appearance. Bali stone carve with an abstract style is using a lot in interior appearance.

Final Image

Imagine the great experience we will get, with amazing site that’s come at  fabulous  width area. Using the great size area , this fantastic houses will be going to be the ultimate house in here. Spending a lot space in front of the land, this house come with fantastic view over all.

In the same location with Jati I, we change the appearance front view of this building with some renovation to create the difference with the surrounding environment .

By making the difference appearance of this view, made him to be prominent around it.

Still continue to using of the brown minimalist color, made the appearance of this building become more elegant , and also this color was favorite color when this building under  renovation.

The car garage was eliminated and only used the outside space to parking the car, well…. you know is because of the area of this building was not too big enough.

Using natural material like andesit stone  was the 1st choice for making this home appearance more softly and beautiful.  In the 1st existing building there is  a balcony on the 2nd floor . We decided to eliminate it and replaced his function to be a part of the master room area on the second floor.

We totally change the whole room composition in this building, because the standard building from the developer was really not comfortable. There are plenty of corners and was very annoying for interior design . So for us is really very much difficult  in the order making this building interior going well.

I Think in this presentation specially for all post I have made, I really like to give more priority to the images of our presentation. And that’s we hope can translate more information of our creation to you all. So here is more images I give it for you all.

Here is image for the appearance of front view building and down here is the  1st floor area… Kitchen, dinning area , family room and stairs to 2nd floor…

Creating Patio in the end of  the house for air circulation and Lighting, make more comfortable atmosphere …

There is a lot of  lighting use in this house , same reason , it’s for creating a romantic atmosphere for this young couple.

Placing some light in the right side , making the marble stairs finishing more beauty and interesting view. This particular wall beside this stair  is using travertine marble finishing.

With the touch of minimalist style, we changed the appearance facade in front of the building until making him prominent compared with the surrounding building.

By having the superiority of the building land that was in the corner, it’s make this appearance in front of the building became very unique.

We only use a little opening window, all make from massif material and combine with frame less glass wall .

The material election that supported the value of the building, contained certain aesthetics, but we should not forget essence that would in gained.

Now many in met and was used was the transparent material material, like glasses, metal, aluminium and even also the steel material. The existence of the function of glasses to this building and no longer for the aim of  illumination, but also for his outside appearance.

We really liked the aperture that was quite good as the solution for the illumination and the circulation of air in interior, therefore the design with void to the area of the ladder was the best choice.

Before we came to the results for this upper presentation, of course we also through a series discussion, so along with this,  we put forward several data produced by our discussions that passed by.

Canary Interior Design

As like our client ask for the idea they want to put in for every particular interior design specially for each room and open space, we translate that with giving them some alternative image, specially the most valuable thing is color and lighting. This upper picture is taken while the site is under renovation. ( 2008 – Oct – 09 ) We are going to change this image after the renovation is fully complete.

Located in fast growing housing complex CEMARA ASRI, this design in the allocation as the marketing office from the local developer.

The wish to put forward a shape of the unique marketing office really in give priority to. And because of that, the building comes with the small mass but functional in the land that was big enough with only included 30% area of the available land.
